Dancin' at the Depot
Today we went to Home Depot and Katelynn & Michael were dancing in the aisle. I thought it was so cute. Want to see it? I thought you would. Here it is.
A Crazy Weekend
Saturday morning we woke up to a beautiful, sunny day and decided to go to the park as a family. The kids got their tricycles out of the backyard, and we headed down the street toward the park. We saw some friends from our ward driving down the street we were about to cross, and they stopped to talk to us for a minute. Then, we crossed the street and continued on to the park. The kids had fun saying "Hi!" to a couple of dogs, and then started to play.
We were playing near the single monkey bar, and Scott thought it would be fun to show the kids how to swing from your legs. Unfortunately, whilst doing so he slipped from the bar and fell ON HIS HEAD!!! When his head hit the ground, his back buckled a little and the wind was knocked out of him. He crouched there on his knees for a while, then gingerly sat up. His upper back was in a significant amount of pain, and was unable to take deep breaths. He determined that he needed to go to a doctor and have some x-rays taken to be sure there was no major damage.
I ran home as fast as I could, grabbed the car, and drove over to the park. I threw the tricycles in the trunk, helped Scott & the kids get into the car, and started driving to the hospital, since none of the urgent care facilities have the capability to take x-rays of the back. While I was on my way back to the park I'd called a friend to come watch the kids while I took Scott to the doctor, but after arriving at the park Scott said he needed to go to the hospital right away because he was in so much pain. So, I called the friend and had her meet me at the hospital. We also called her husband and asked him to meet us there as well so he could give Scott a blessing.
We arrived at the hospital about the same time as the friend. She helped me get the kids out of the car, while I helped get Scott out. Then I went to park the car, since I was in the drop-off zone. A few minutes later they called Scott back to triage, and got him settled into a room. My friend's husband arrived with another friend of ours to administer the blessing. After the blessing they wheeled Scott away to have his x-rays done. I left at that point to take the kids over to my friend's house, rather than having the kids hang out in the Emergency Room. The triage nurse kinda freaked out about them being there, because it is 'swine flu season'. We wanted to get the kids out of there anyway, 'cause we didn't know how long Scott was going to be at the hospital. So, I ran home, grabbed the kids' blankets & swimsuits and drove them to my friend's. After dropping the kids off I headed back to the hospital to be with Scott.
When I got there they had already released him. He was given a couple of prescriptions and was told to follow up with a non-ER doc in 2-4 days. Luckily, the x-rays showed no spinal cord damage. It looks like he just has some soft tissue damage. But, he has "pain. Lots of pain." (name that movie)
I took Scott home, got him settled into bed (which was/is easier said than done), dropped off his prescriptions, then went to pick up the kids. I had planned on going with my friend to her stake's Relief Society broadcast, but now that Scott was out of commission that didnt' look possible, because a) there is no way he could watch the kids and b) we couldn't have a babysitter at the house with Scott laying in bed. (the whole "inappropriate" thing). SO, my angel friend arranged to have a sitter come to her house to watch the kids so we could both go to the Relief Society broadcast.
I'm SO glad I was able to go. The service project and dinner beforehand was a lot of fun. Four of my friends were there, and we were having a blast. They are all such a hoot. It was nice to see the broadcast, too. Here are a few of the things that really stood out to me.

- Get rid of non-essentials. What habits have you formed or what things are you doing that are non-essential? Spend your time doing things that build up the kingdom of God.
- Serve according to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Never suppress a generous thought.
- Women are heroines when they embrace righteousness & shun selfishness.
- You are a powerful influence for good. It is through you that God's great love for His children is made manifest.
- Be sure to "mind the gap". Gaps include: the gap between what we know we should be doing and what we actually get accomplished, the gap between believing you are a precious child of God and knowing you are (Don't let doubt and insecurity fill your mind), and the gap between believing in Christ and being valiant in our testimony of Him (repent and be faithful).
- Feelings of charity come through the Atonement. Charity is part of the change of heart.
So, all in all it was kind of a crazy weekend, wouldn't you say?!

Dad's Mac & Cheese
Yesterday (Sept 23rd) was my Dad's birthday. He would have been 57 years old. (He passed away from lung cancer in March of 2008) In celebration, I made Kraft Deluxe Macaroni & Cheese--you know, the kind with the creamy cheese packet inside, rather than the powdered cheese packet. It was his favorite kind. And he always had to douse it with salt.
I remember it being a special treat to be able to have some of Dad's "special" macaroni & cheese. He would say, "If you make me some macaroni & cheese, you can have some of it after you get me a bowl." We always thought it was so awesome to have some of Dad's mac & cheese, and happily made it for him, knowing we would get some of it. Now that I'm a little older it makes me laugh. He just didn't want to make it himself, so he made us do it!! But it still feels special to me, and I have this strange fondness for Kraft Deluxe Macaroni & Cheese. It's a rich calorie, fat & sodium laden bowlful of goodness. A small thing, I know, but just one of those little things you cling to, I suppose.
Happy birthday, Dad. We'll see you in a little while!

Thursday already?!
This week is flying by, and I don't really have much to show for it.
On Saturday we went to the park in the morning, then that evening Scott & I went to the adult session of Stake Conference. I was supposed to be there for choir at 6:10, but between cleaning the house, chasing crazy kids and picking up the babysitter, we didn't get there until after 7. The meeting had already started and I had to slink up to my seat, feeling utterly embarrassed. After conference, we went out to dinner at Sweet Tomatoes. I love that place. I swear it used to be half that price, though. Stupid inflation..sheesh! We gorged ourselves on too many carbs, and after I was starting to feel like Tommy Boy ("..and I'd get bear claws lodged right here...") we decided it was time to go. Since we were there at closing time, we were able to take a few dozen muffins with us. Score!
Sunday was Stake Conference. A two hour meeting with little kids, in the metal chairs no less, is not my idea of a good time. Oh, well. The rest of the day we just stayed at home...nothing super exciting. It was a pretty peaceful Sunday, I'd say.
Monday the kids had Little Tigers, after which we headed to our friend's house, where Mommy did a workout video while the kids played in the backyard. That night we had Family Home Evening, where we had a little lesson about service and introduced our chore charts. The kids seem really excited about them. The hardest part is getting *me* to follow through and help them with their chores. I have a hard enough time getting chores done myself!
Tuesday we went to the park for a little while, then went to Institute at Scott's school. The teacher this semester is *awesome*! The lesson was on the first few chapters of 1st Nephi, and he pointed out so many neat things that I had never caught before. There is so much contained in the scriptures! It's amazing!
After Institute, the kids and I went to the grocery store. At Fry's they have a "Kids' Korner" where you can, get this, DROP YOUR KIDS OFF WHILE YOU SHOP! I know...pretty amazing, right?! That's the only place I shop now. A whole hour and a half to myself to shop in peace and wander the store?! Get outta town! Later that night Scott's friend, Shaun, hung out with the kiddos at McDonald's while Scott & I went to our karate class.
Then, after karate, I met a couple of friends at T.G.I.Friday's for a GNO. It was *SO* fun. I haven't laughed that hard in such a long time. Our server probably thought we were nuts, or drunk. Really, we were just 3 overtired, crazy moms at a restaurant without our children. That's a high in and of itself! No alcohol needed! It was seriously so much fun. I don't think I would survive med school without these lovely ladies to laugh with.
On Wednesday, we just bummed around at home until it was time for Little Tigers. I was frustrated, 'cause Emma *refused* to participate! She stood there by the door the whole time! At first I stood next to her. Then, I just left and watched through the windows outside. Every few minutes one of the instructors would come over and ask her if she was ready to participate, and she just shook her head and said "No!". I don't know what her deal is. She didn't want to on Tuesday, either. At least on Tuesday she finally joined in, but not today! Michael & Katelynn love it, though. I'll even catch Michael pretending that he is in his karate class at home.
Which brings us to Thursday...today we have not done much. In a few minutes I will be leaving to take the kids to the Larson's house (Jenn's watching them during karate), then off to karate. After karate, we are having dinner at the Larsons'. That should be fun. We haven't done much 'couple friend' activity in a little while. Scott has been busy studying like crazy. He has a test coming up on Monday. I think he had 2 tests last week, but I can't remember for sure. I can't keep track of all these tests!
So, nothing too exciting. Just had to do a little update. Sorry I don't have any pictures to accompany this post. (I know, I'm no fun at all. Ha ha ha!) I'll have to pull the pictures off my camera and get some up for ya. Till then, have a great day!!

Do NOT feed the ducks!

On Saturday we were at the park and thought it would be fun to feed the ducks. It was fun if you like horror movies!! duhn, duhn, duuuuh. There is a reason they have a sign posted.
It started out as some good, clean fun.

Then every duck & goose within a 50 mile radius realized we had bread. These birds are not shy! They were not opposed to getting up close & personal.
It's an eerie feeling to have birds following you and eying you hungrily. I felt like we were in "The Birds". Creeeepy!!

After we were all out of bread, the kids were helping me "Shoo!" the birds back into the river. (IF you can call it that. I suppose it's a river for Arizona.) Katelynn was the funniest. She was saying. "Go you freaky birds! Get back in your pool!" Ha ha ha!

We didn't know that simply feeding the ducks would be such a life-threatening experience. I think the kids really got a kick out of it, though.I think I may have nightmares about the way that one goose was looking at me. *shudder*
Note: No people or ducks were harmed in the making of this blog post.
Park
If you can't tell, we spend a decent amount of time at the park. We go at least once a week, if not more. I'm sure as the weather cools down our park attendance will go up. Right now it's just so blasted hot! The kids don't seem to care, though. I don't know how they can play in the heat! I'm there for a few minutes, and end up sitting in the shade worn out.
Here are some cute pictures from the park for your viewing pleasure.

Bird Sighting at IKEA
Last week we went to IKEA, and there was a BIRD in the store!! We were cruising along near the curtains, and we see this bird walking around on the ground. It walked underneath one of the racks. Then, he (or she...*I* didn't get close enough to tell!) flew up into the rafters. I whipped out my camera and snapped a picture of the crow. (I think it was a crow. I'm no ornithologist.)

My friend's daughter was chasing it and saying, "Birdie, birdie.....come here. Here, birdie birdie......" Unfortunately, I was in a different part of the store when this happened, but I heard it was hilarious. I was catching up with my friends after dropping the girls off in Smaland.
Why wasn't I dropping off Michael as well? Michael was not allowed to go to Smaland because he ran off TWICE. The first time was when we first got to IKEA. I got him out of the car first, and told him to wait next to the car while I got the girls out. I looked up and he was all the way to the front door! Luckily, we parked in the family lot, so he was just on the sidewalk and not walking through the parking lot, but he still gave me a heart attack. The second time, I had taken the kids to the bathroom by the restaurant after lunch, and was taking care of some business myself. When I came out of the stall, the girls were still there washing their hands, but Michael was gone. He was down the hall & all the way to the stairs! We were about to go to Smaland, so I decided right then and there that he was *not* going to be allowed to go play. He had to stay with me and sit in the cart the whole time the girls were in Smaland. I hated having one-on-one time with me as a punishment, but I had to convince that kid somehow to not run off, and that seemed like the best punishment at the time.
He was so funny, though, because near the end of the girls' time in Smaland, Michael started saying, "I'm worried about the girls. I miss them. We need to go check on them. I'm worried about my girls." I thought it was so sweet. Then, the truth comes out! He says, "I'm worried about the girls. I want you to go check on them. Then, when we get them you can just leave me there at the kid place." HA!! Worried about the girls, my eye! What a conniving little punk! I think he gets it from his father. (I'm not really mad. In fact, I think it is hilarious. "I'm worried about my girls..." Psh!)
I love IKEA. It's fun to look at all the displays, eat for cheap in the restaurant and browse all the cheap, stylish stuff. I got 2 side tables for the living room, a little table and chairs set for the kids (a display model in the "As-is" dept for $19. Holla!) and a set of white serving dishes. If it was closer I would probably be there a lot more often.

Walking Home
Last Sunday the kids wanted to walk home from church. It's a bit too far to walk the whole way, so Scott & Katelynn started walking from the church, and we followed in the car. Then we picked them up and drove almost home. When we got to the street before our street, I stopped the car and let all the kids and Scott out so they could walk around the block to our house. They looked so cute holding hands and walking with their Daddy that I, of course, had to take pictures!

Tonto on Labor Day
So, I'm *finally* getting around to blogging about our camping trip on Labor Day weekend. We left Sunday afternoon and headed north, where it is cooler! We stopped inside the national forest just outside of Payson, Arizona and set up camp.
We made hobo dinners and roasted marshmallows. By the way...toasted coconut marshmallows=awesome.
The next morning we got up, made breakfast & broke camp, but not before having some fun with the BB gun. Everyone but Katelynn took a turn.
While we were packing up, Michael was taking pictures with my camera. He got some decent shots! Of course, we also ended up with a bunch of blurry ones, and he took a picture of the cooler, like, 14 times! Good thing it's digital, right?!
After we were all loaded up, we headed for Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. It's a really nice park, and all the trails were easy enough to do with our three four-year-olds.
The first trail we did was the Waterfall Trail. The waterfall was really pretty, and you could go into the cave underneath it. We took a family picture inside the cave. The kids got soaked, but that's okay. It's what being a kid is all about--exploring, discovering, and not worrying about getting dirty.
Then, we set out on a long trail to the natural bridge. The kids had a great time stopping along the trail to catch frogs & crawdads and look at sticks, rocks & butterflies. The trail was nicely shaded most of the way. It was nice to see some "real" trees. There was a picturesque creek running alongside the trail. Scott & I decided it was just about the perfect sized creek to have on our property someday when we build our 'dream house'.
Once we got to the bridge, which is HUGE, we stopped to have some snacks trail side. Of course, we had to break out the "stinky fish"!! After our snack, we made our way through the rest of the bridge. There was one part of the trail that was pretty treacherous. It was really slick and steep, and if you lost your footing you would fall straight down into the water...or crash onto the rocks below! They even had a ranger stationed there to help people, and he was carrying a rope to throw down to people if they fell. Luckily, we made it across alright. It was pretty scary, though.
When we finished the trail we had a picnic dinner, then headed home. The kids had a blast! When it was time to leave they kept saying,"We want to go on another hike. We don't want to go home!" That's the sign of a successful trip, I'd say.
Here is a slideshow of our trip. I figured that would be easier than trying to upload a zillion (okay, maybe not a zillion) pictures to oh-so-slow Blogger. The pictures are labeled for your convenience. ;)

Pod BBQ
Last week the Podiatry Club put on a BBQ at the school. Scott was helping cook the burgers. We came to the school to bring by some burger seasoning, and ended up staying for the whole thing.
Here is Scott cookin' it up! Also in the picture are Boyd, Michael & Julie.
Emma & Burkley smiling for the camera.
Burkley & Boyd enjoying lunch with the kids.

As you all know, Katelynn is a bit boy crazy. (click here & here for more on *that*) Katelynn's newest crush is Scott's friend from school Burkley. Oh.my.goodness. That girl's got it bad. I think it started when he played basketball with her. She was done for after that.
Just before typing up this post, I asked Katelynn to tell me about Burkley. Her eyes lit up, and this is what she said, "Burkley was playing basketball with me. He was my friend. I love Burkley. He's Daddy's friend. I love all Daddy's friends. I love Burkley a lot. I always scream at Burkley. He always wants to play basketball with me." LOL!!! As I've said before, we are in *big* trouble when she gets older!
Here is everyone who helped out at the BBQ.
A picture one of the kids took of Stephanie. She, as well as everyone else, was getting a kick out of the kids.
A picture Michael took of his foot. I thought it was appropriate for a Podiatry BBQ. Ha!
Austin laughing about something, and Scott helping the kiddos eat.

A picture one of the kids (I keep saying that, don't I. Well, picture taking kept the kids occupied during the BBQ, and I don't remember who had the camera when.) took of Ashley & I. I think they like her 'cause she gives them Cheetos. Ha ha ha!
A picture of (almost) the whole family. Disregard the fact that this is one of the most unflattering angles, and I look psycho. Thank you. I *do* love Michael's face in the picture, though. So cute.

Ice Cream Social

On Tuesday my friend Jenn & I put together a back-to-school ice cream social for the podiatry students in our hubbies' class & their families. We didn't have a huge turn-out, but we had a good time anyway. Any excuse to eat ice cream, right?! The kids always love to play at the park, and the adults always enjoy chatting, so it's a win-win situation.

Good luck on the upcoming school year, 2nd years!!
Little Tigers
Yesterday was the kids' first day of karate. They {love} it! We are really excited for them to be taking karate, because we feel as though it will help them to learn to follow directions and be respectful, as well as give them some structured exercise time. After being given instructions or asked a question they have to respond with "Yes, ma'am" or "Yes, sir". During class they kept looking over, smiling and waving at me. Katelynn said to me a couple of times, "Mom, this is a game!". The other parents kept laughing and commenting on how cute they were, and were asking me how old they were, are they triplets, all the usual stuff.
Here is a picture of the kids on a bench outside right after they got out of class, still wearing their 'karate outfits'. I wasnt' sure if taking pictures during class was okay, so I just got a picture right after class. Sorry they're all squinting like that. The sun is really, really bright around 5 o'clock!

With the tuition for the 3 kids, the parents are allowed to train for free, so Scott and I are taking a Beginning Kung Fu class together, as well. Our first class was tonight. It's a pretty good workout! I never thought of myself as the type of person who would take karate, but I'm really liking it so far. Maybe one of these days I'll be more intimidating. Ha ha!

Arizona Museum of Natural History
The kids were very excited to go "hunting for dinosaurs". Michael especially loves dinosaurs.
Emma, showing us one of the dinosaurs she found.

You didn't know the kids starred in an old Western, did you? (They have an exhibit where you can stand in front of a blue screen and be projected 'into' the movie. The kids, and parents, had a lot of fun with it. )

The best attempt at a shot of all three kids together.
Panning for gold.
The family picture. I thought this one actually turned out pretty nice. Well, except for Emma & Michael's hands in their mouths. Crazy kids...

Children's Museum
During Scott's break we took the kids to the children's museum. It was our last chance to go before our membership expired, so we squeezed one last use out of it.
The kids always enjoy playing with the sand table. They have these rolling pins that make shapes as you roll them in the sand, like flowers and fish. Pretty neat.

Mommy and Michael working in the art studio.

Katelynn & Michael riding the tricycles in the Pedal Power exhibit. I know they have devil eyes in the pictures, but I'm too lazy to try and figure out how to Photoshop it right now, so you get 'em like this. I think the picture of Michael is kinda fun. Go, Speed Racer, Go!

Michael making us a pizza in the pizza kitchen. It's funny, because they always make us sit down at a table, and then they bring us a pizza, plates & cups. While they aren't looking, we grab all the toppings off the pizza and stuff them behind us, then toss the crust into a pile over by the pizza oven, so it looks like we ate the pizza. The kids get a kick out of it every time.

Mommy & Daddy waiting for their pizza to arrive.
Emma chewing us out about *something* (I don't remember what, but she was obviously very distraught).
Katelynn waiting for a customer in the grocery store. Katelynn spent a ton of time in the little grocery store. She was working in the 'back room' and helping people as they came to the window, putting away food, sorting the food into different bins and running the food along the conveyor belt. It was so funny. She also spent a lot of time with her basket in the store shopping. Watch out--that girl *loves* to shop!

After the museum, we had to stop by the Mexican grocery store for tortillas and cheap produce. For some reason they always have the best sales on produce there. I don't know why it's so cheap, but I like it.

Seven Years, and not an itch in sight!
A couple months ago I committed a cardinal blogging sin. I failed to post the fact that on June 21st Scott & I celebrated our

It's hard to believe it has been seven years already. On one hand, it seems to have flown by very fast. On the other hand, it feels like we have been married forever, like the time before we were married was another lifetime ago.

While filling the bookcases in the office, I came across a list I made 4.8.2000 entitled "Qualities I Want In My Future Husband". This was over a year before I had even met Scott. Here is the list:

Not *too* demanding of a list, right? Well, it got everything on my list and more when I married Scott. I could not be more blessed than to have him in my life. I am so grateful that we can be married not only till death do we part, but for time & all eternity. Although life has had its ups and downs (as all lives do), I am so happy for the last seven years we have had together, and look forward to spending the rest of my life with him.
