Funny Kids

The other day we were driving along and were stopped at a light next to a convertible. Emma looked out the window and, very concerned, said, "Oh no, Mom! Their car is broken!!"

Michael smacked my butt. I said, "Hey! Don't hit me!" He said, "No, I was just giving your butt a high-five!"

Katelynn sneezed and said, "I have to bless myself, Mommy!"

Halloween Party

On Friday night we went to a fun Halloween Party with some of our best friends from school. We had a lot of fun. It was awesome for the guys to be able to take a break from studying, and we all had some good laughs.

The pinata was hilarious! When we told the kids that you hit the pinata with a stick, they just looked at us like we were nuts. Then Scott said, "Wanna hear a secret?! This pumpkin is full of candy. When it breaks open candy goes flying out and you get to pick it up." Then Michael started licking his lips and saying, "Mmmm. Candy. Yummm." Then Katelynn walked up to the pinata and kicked it! Ha ha ha!

When it was my turn, Emma & Katelynn were pulling on the pinata rope so I couldn't hit it, and they thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever done.

My little fairy princesses.

The cutest pirate you've ever seen.

The Scotts duel it out! Who do you think is going to win?

These kids really love each other. They posed like this on their own.

The whole family. If you can't tell, I am dressed up as Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. No, I do not usually wear my hair *that* pouffy! I still need to make my Prefect & S.P.E.W. badges, though. Oh, and want to hear something awesome? I made Michael's pirate vest myself! Woo hoo! Granted, it involved, like, 2 rows of stitching, but hey! It's a start, right?! And do you like the parrot on his shoulder? Hee hee hee. The girls really wanted to be fairy princesses this year, and I made the girls' tutus. (Thanks for the help, Pam!) One last thing...don't you think Scott is the cutest cowboy ever?! Ow ow!

Pictures of our friends who came to the party all dressed up in their costumes.

Thanks for a fun time, guys! Kristen & Rob, you were great hosts! It was an awesome party.

Oh, and thanks for letting me steal pictures from you, Kristin & Ashley! My pictures=not good.

The Halloween that never was...

One Halloween when I was, I think, in junior high, my brother, sisters & I were talking nonstop about Halloween. If I remember right, our Halloween obsession that year began around late August or early September. Well, my parents got sick of it. They felt like Halloween was starting to trump Christmas in excitement level, and that just wouldn’t do. So, they said that if they heard one more peep about Halloween, costumes, or anything else related to said holiday, they wouldn’t let us celebrate Halloween. Well, kids will be kids, and of course we talked about Halloween some more, so my parents actually banned us from celebrating Halloween that year!

We had to stay home on Halloween night, while my parents went to the temple (yes, the temple is open on Halloween, for all of you inquiring minds who wanted to know). They didn't even buy candy for us to pass out, so we had to give apples to all the poor kids who came to our house!! We lived in a very tight-knit neighborhood, so not only was it lame to miss Halloween, but it was also embarrassing to be “the kids in that family whose parents grounded them from trick-or-treating”. Oh, man…

P.S. When I talked to my Mom about this, she said that we had started talking about Halloween about 6 months early. That's not how I remember it...

You're kidding me, right?!

I am not a perfect mom. I will just lay that out on the table. Jillian <---- not perfect. Got it?

Okay, now that we have that out of the way...

On a typical day I will feed the kids lunch around 12 or so, then after lunch it is their nap time. Well, the other day I decided to look something up on the internet "real quick" before laying the kids down for a nap. It seems that "real quick" and "internet" are not words that can comfortably and easily reside in the same sentence in my world. I got sucked into e-mail checking, Facebook status update reading, picture downloading, blog surfing and the like. Before I knew it, the kids, having been left unattended, had managed to make quite the mess.

When I saw what they had done I started "wigging out" and saying, "What in the world is going on in here?! Are you guys crazy?!?!" This is a list of what I found:
  • crumbled muffins spread all over the family room, kitchen & playroom
  • Halloween candy purchased the previous day opened and spread around their bedroom
  • water all over the bathroom floor and counter
  • one of the girls' babydolls being given a bath. One that is not supposed to be bathed, of course.
  • the same babydoll sporting a new haircut that resembles "the Rachel".
  • Michael wearing a t-shirt with a cut down the front originating from the collar. This was the second time he had ever worn this shirt. When asked why he cut his shirt, he said, "So I could put my head in!" Sweetheart, that's what the big hole at the top of your shirt is for...
Now read what the shirt says.

Quite appropriate, don't you think?!

It's days like these when you want to resign your post or fire yourself from your job. Is that possible? No. Would you really want to do that? No. Do I have more learning and growing to do while on this Earth? YES. Do I love my kids a whole heap, even though they do crazy things, make messes and drive me up the wazoo sometimes? YES times infinity!!

After Institute...

Every Tuesday we go to Daddy's school to attend an Institute class. The teacher is awesome, and it's nice to see Daddy during the day. Learning from the scriptures and feeling the Spirit is nice, too. After Institute this last Tuesday it was a beautiful day and the kids wanted me to take pictures of them. It was a gorgeous day, and I'm not one to turn down the kids asking to have their pictures taken, so take some I did! Here are some of the better ones.

Oh! And I received an awesome compliment from the Institute teacher while I was taking the kids' pictures. He was walking out to his car and he said,
"Wait-were all of those kids in class?"
"Yeah..."
"Wow! I didn't even notice they were there until class was over and they were running around. How do you get them to behave so well? No, seriously."
"Uhm...well, we usually have lunch for them to eat during class, but... I dunno."
"Well, they are really well behaved. 'Cause, like I said, I really didn't notice that all of them were in class. So, you can take that as a compliment."
"Uh, thanks!"

Mommy:1, The Devil:0. Yessss!

At least I know I'm doing something right some of the time, 'cause I definitely have days that I feel like I am doing everything wrong.

Build-A-Baby

I wrote a post for my friend Kristen's blog about the babies' first Halloween. You can see it HERE. Or, you can read it DOWN THERE. Whichever. But, Kristen's blog looks very festive, so you should pop over there anyways. There are many fun posts on there to get you in the Halloween spirit. (Hope it's okay that I stole my post off of your blog, Kristen.)

***

For today’s submission I will be going along with the costume theme that has been prevalent on the blog thus far. Although I have triplets (Yes, I have triplets. Three of them. Yes, I have my hands full. No, I do not have my whole family done “in one shot”. Yes, it was a difficult pregnancy. No, they are not identical- 2 of them are girls, and one is a boy. You do the math. Oh, sorry. I got kinda carried away there. *Ahem* moving on…), I have never really taken advantage of their triplet status to have cute, coordinated costumes. Sad, I know. The only time they came close to coordinating was their 2nd Halloween when they were all spiders--black knee-highs stuffed with cotton and pinned to a black onesie. I was very lazy that year.

But, on the kids' first Halloween they were so tiny that we got their costumes at Build-A-Bear Workshop. The costumes fit them perfectly, or may have even been a little bit big! Emma was Snow White. We got a little black wig since she had no hair, and pulled the red bow that came with the wig through the holes designed for the bear's ears to stick through.

Katelynn was Sleeping Beauty. The costume came with this little crown. Adorable! And, we never *did* get a picture of her in that costume when she wasn't sleeping. Guess it was the appropriate costume for her that year.

Michael was Woody. The hat that came with the costume was to die for. He looks excited, doesn’t he? We have him sitting in Scott's cowboy hat.

We saved the costumes. They were not cheap, my friends, not cheap. Who pays that much for a Halloween costume for a TEDDY BEAR?! Not on our student budget! Maybe when we have grandkids we’ll be able to afford that. Anyways, we plan to get them a Build-A-Bear someday and dress it in their first Halloween costume. I think we're waiting till they are old enough to appreciate it and not trash the costumes, though.

Caramel Apples

Last Wednesday Jenn and I got together to make caramel apples, a staple Fall tradition. It may still be getting up into the 80s or 90s, but I'm still celebrating Fall, dang it! We missed everyone who couldn't make it. Perhaps another day...

The kids really got a kick out of making caramel apples. They enjoyed helping unwrap the caramels and coating the apples with the good stuff. (By the way...is it caramel or carmel? Does it just depend on what part of the country you're from or what? My spell check seems to think it's caramel. Whatever. It's tastes just as good and sticks to your teeth just as much no matter how you spell it.) We also coated some apples in chocolate and peanuts. Yum! For those of you who've never coated anything (apples, pretzels, fruit) with chocolate, you *must* try it! I'd never done it before, except with a fondue fountain, and the chocolate was SO easy to work with and the apples turned out SO cute. Do it. Today. Why are you still here?! Go to the store right now!

Okay, now that you're back, here are some pictures from our activity for you to enjoy. (I'm not sure how to make it bigger, so if you want to see 'em up close and personal just click on it.)

Time Out for Jilly

Last weekend I was able to attend Time Out For Women with some of my friends. We went on Friday night and Saturday. It was a lot of fun, and all the speakers were awesome. There were times we were laughing so hard we were crying! And all the speakers were very uplifting, too. On Friday night Jenny Oaks Baker performed. Whoa! She is an amazing violinist!!

Friday night. l to r: Ashley, Jillian, Kristen, Pam, Jenn

The only part of the whole two days that was not as enjoyable was whenever Kenneth Cope performed. He is just SO cheesy and his shirts were wild! And, we only recognized two of the songs he performed. Upon reflection we realized that the only reason we knew those songs is because they were popular when we were teenagers. Ha ha ha! So Kenneth, if you're reading this, I'm sorry, but we were just underwhelmed by your contribution. We may have enjoyed it more if we were still single, giggly teenagers, rather than married, giggly 20-somethings.

On Saturday there was an 80 minute lunch break, so we brought our lunches and sat at some tables outside the convention center. It was a beautiful day, if not a little too warm.

I'm really glad I was able to go. It was uplifting and nice to get out of the house for a couple of days. If you ever have a chance to attend a Time Out For Women I would totally recommend it.

Leaving the conference:

Thanks for going with me, ladies. We'll have to go again next year!

Karate

The kids love their "Little Tigers" class. The location we were attending closed down, so we started attending class at their other location a little farther away, but it's not too far. When we first started at the new place, Emma was a bit hesitant and refused to participate the first two times. But, she's over it now.

Michael playing around with one of the instructors.

Emma jumping over the stick.

Michael running under the stick.

Katelynn running under the stick.

Emma on her way back from doing the obstacle course.

Katelynn standing at attention. "Yes, ma'am!"

Here is a video of one of their favorite "games" in their karate class. First is Michael, then Emma, then Katelynn.

Long time, no post

Lately I have been a slacker blogger. There hasn't been a ton of excitement around here. Last weekend I went to Time Out For Women. I'll do a separate post about that. Other than that, not a ton going on.

Scott has been busy busy with school. They have had a lot of tests the last couple of weeks, and having a sore back hasn't helped the situation any. He is getting better, but is still in pain. The first few days after his injury were a bit difficult. Now he can walk, sit in class and get in & out of bed by himself. :D

The weather is starting to cool down a little, which has been nice. Being in the high 80s/90s is a refreshing change of pace. Although, it's supposed to be 99 again on Saturday. What's up with that?!

Well, there will be more posts to come. Just wanted to let you know we are all alive and relatively well. Have a beautiful day!

Backyard Picnic

The other day the kids decided to have their lunch in the backyard as a picnic. It was a beautiful day, so I said, "Sure." Here are a few pictures from the picnic. While looking at these pictures it really hits me that they are kids now, and not babies. Time is just flying by so fast! (except when they are all whining and complaining about something, then it seems to stand still!)

Stats

Back on September 14th the kids had a WIC appointment. Here are their stats:

Emma
height: 40"
weight: 33.14 lbs.

Katelynn
height: 39.2"
weight: 33.13 lbs.

Michael
height: 38"
weight: 31.5 lbs.

Looks like Michael needs to grow a couple of inches before he can go on Splash Mountain & Big Thunder. Katelynn's really close, though. Anyone have any kid stretching tips? ;)
